Butane prices rise 35 cents per gallon

Posted: Wednesday, September 29, 2021. 2:09 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has risen again, as per notice from the Belize Bureau of Standards.

This time the price rise is by 35 cents per gallon.

The new prices are as follows: $4.37 per gallon wholesale, $5.97 per gallon retail in the municipalities, and $6.07 in the rural areas.

Most are used to measuring by the pound, so in urban areas the price is $1.36 per pound and in rural areas $1.38. A typical hundred-pound cylinder will thus cost you 136 dollars in urban areas and 138 in rural areas.

The Bureau blames a combination of factors including rising heat on the U.S. West Coast and production issues on the Gulf Coast attributed to hurricane Ida, as well as rising worldwide demand for natural gas.

However, prices have been on a steady upward march, save for seasonal reductions, since the creation of the National Gas Company Limited last year despite hopes of lower prices due to a change in acquisition methods.
