By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community Dr. Carla Barnett held wide-ranging talks with Japanese Ambassador to CARICOM Tatsuo Hirayama, according to CARICOM TODAY.
“Both praised the excellent relations between the two sides during a courtesy call by the Ambassador to the Secretary-General on Wednesday at the CARICOM Secretariat’s Georgetown, Guyana Headquarters,” said CARICOM TODAY.
According to the CARICOM newsletter, Barnett and Hirayama discussed Japan’s assistance to the Community, including climate change, disaster risk management, renewable energy, and United Nations Security Council reform.
CARICOM TODAY said the regional Secretariat Headquarters in Guyana is undergoing a major Japanese renewable energy project rehaul “which when completed later this year will provide the building with its electricity needs”.
Ambassador Hirayama also informed Dr. Barnett of World Expo 2025 to be held in Osaka, Japan.
