BREAKING: Commissioner of Police says suspect in Dwayne Gabourel murder positive for COVID-19, arraignment postponed

Posted: Friday, October 1, 2021. 4:05 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police have identified, arrested, and charged the prime suspect in last Saturday’s murder of 15-year-old Dwayne Gabourel on New Road, Belize City.

But according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams via a message in the official police blog, the suspect could not be brought to court this afternoon.

Williams explained, “Before he was to be taken to the court, he was swabbed for COVID-19, and [he] tested positive.”

Based on this, he could not be arraigned, the Commissioner said.

He remains in custody until he is free and clear of the disease; the Commissioner did not say what were his symptoms if any and where he is being held and if it is away from others to ensure he does not transmit the virus.

A name was given but the particulars are not yet provided. When they are we will update this developing story.
