Forest Department scales back in-person interaction with public due to COVID-19

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Forest Department said it is scaling back in-person interaction with the public due to COVID-19.

The Forest Department outlined four “precautionary measures and procedures while continuing to provide services to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic in Belize.”

The first measure in adhering to the policy of social distancing and other health and hygiene measures is that the Forest Department offices “will be interacting with the public primarily through its office numbers, emails listed below, and Facebook page (Forest Department Belize)”.

The second is changing its work schedule. The Forest Department will now open to the public from Monday to Thursday starting at 8 a.m. and closing at 4 p.m. On Fridays, the offices will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m.

The third measure is for persons who require urgent services provided by the Department. They are asked to call the nearest office at the following numbers:

• Belmopan 822-1524 or 822-2079

• Savannah 523-2417

• San Ignacio 804-3280

• Orange Walk 302-2208

• Machaca 702-2765

The fourth measure says that applications for Forest Licenses may be picked up at any Forest Department office, requested from [email protected], or through Facebook. Applications may be dropped off or submitted via email.
