Belize wins 1st match in 12th Central American U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, qualifies to second round

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize representatives Ernesto Escobar and Wilder Martinez on Friday won their first match in the 12th Central American U21 Beach Volleyball Championship in Guatemala and qualified for the second round.

Martinez and Escobar defeated Kevin Acosta and John Montenegro of Panama 1, 2-0 (21-15, 21-18). Nicaragua 2 also beat Panama 1 2-0 (21-6, 21-12).

Belize is only represented in the Men’s tournament and with only one team. The other countries have two teams each. Our boys are in Group B along with Panama 1 and Nicaragua 2.

On Saturday morning, Martinez and Escobar are playing for Group B’s top spot against Nicaragua 2 comprised of Carlos Solis and Christopher Cascante.
