By Aaron Humes: Officially, the cause of today’s outage of the Facebook family of social media platforms is unknown.
But according to Wales Online, neither is when it is expected to come back.
The firm’s communications executive, Andy Stone, said earlier it was “working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible” and it apologized “for any inconvenience”.
A similar message was also posted by WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook. Instagram and Messenger are also affected.
The last time a problem of this scale happened, in March 2019, it took 24 hours before everything went back to normal, Wales Online reports.
It comes after a massive leak of user data earlier this year affecting more than a half-billion users.
Facebook said in reply: “We understand people’s concerns, which is why we continue to strengthen our systems to make scraping from Facebook without our permission more difficult and go after the people behind it.”
