Dennis Jones – Hailed by Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology (BEST) on his passing

Posted: Wednesday, October 6, 2021. 4:49 pm CST.

By Hugh O’Brien: The Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology (BEST) issued a press release earlier today ‘hailing’ Dennis Jones and informing Belize of his unfortunate passing. Up until his death, Jones was serving as the Managing Director of BEST, a post he has held since July 1997.

The release from BEST ‘hailed’ Jones as “the leader in developing and acquiring the funding needed for the implementation of numerous developmental projects for Belize”. The projects included those funded by the European Union, United Nations Development Programme – Global Environmental Facility (UNDP-GEG), Canada Fund, the World Bank and the Inter-American Foundation.

While at BEST, Jones was able to expand the micro-credit programme and implement numerous projects that benefited low income groups and individuals. Under the micro-credit programme, projects in bee-keeping, sheep rearing, vegetable production and dried fruits were facilitated for many groups and communities.

In short, Dennis Jones “was committed to the development of Belize and the plight of those in need,” emphasized the release.

The Board and staff of BEST said that Dennis will be sadly missed. “He was much more than a boss to his staff. He made us feel a part of his family”, they noted.

Jones died on Monday of this week, of complications related to a surgery he undertook.

Breaking Belize News (BBN) expresses deep sympathies to the board and staff of BEST and extends condolences to his family.
