PSU says free COVID-19 testing sites should be extended to all districts

Posted: Wednesday, October 6, 2021. 11:39 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Public Service Union of Belize (PSU) said the Government’s free COVID-19 testing sites should be extended to all districts to benefit all Belizeans.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, PSU said it acknowledged the initiative of the Government of Belize in providing free testing to Public Officers as well as the wider public.

“We hoped that such an initiative would have been considered before the Vaccine Mandate was rolled out, nevertheless it now gives Belizeans back their “Right to Freedom of Choice,” said the PSU.

“The PSU gives credence to the fact that low-income families, who would also benefit from Free Testing, exist all over the country; therefore, giving them access to this service is highly recommended and should be prioritized,” added the Union.

“The PSU is hopeful that this ‘Centralized Testing Initiative’ will be extended to ALL districts so that ALL BELIZEANS can benefit.”

PSU said it encouraged Belizeans “to get tested, continue wearing your masks correctly, wash your hands and lastly physical distance yourselves to stop the spread of COVID-19”.
