By Aaron Humes: More than 18 months after the first cases, Belizeans are heartily tired of COVID-19.
But at a press conference this morning, the Opposition United Democratic Party marshaled its list of medical advisors to remind everyone of the basics and to indict the Government for its missteps.
It is time to “get back to basics:” proper wearing of masks over the nose and covering the chin; consistent and regular hand-washing and sanitization to remove all germs; and social distancing, despite the emotional pain of lack of close contact, the party echoed.
The current community spread in Belize City makes everyone a risk, except for our very closest loved ones at home; but that makes it even more important to limit contact outside the home. Schools should have a minimum enforcement standard to be reopened and not allowed to do so until it is met, the party added.
How is a situation of 200-plus cases per day fine to re-open schools when 45 cases per day was not, the party asks? Until these numbers are reduced, the risk is too great, the party asserts.
