Queen’s Baton starts countdown to Commonwealth Games

By Aaron Humes: The Commonwealth Games 2022 will be held next year in Birmingham, West Midlands, England.

Its usual harbinger, the Queen’s Baton containing her official message to the Commonwealth, took off yesterday on a tour of all members of the Commonwealth of Nations, numbering 72.

The tour lasts 294 days and will include a stop in Belize at a date to be determined.

The relay finishes the day the Games open when the Queen or her representative reads the message at the opening ceremony.

The Commonwealth Games are the second largest of their kind worldwide after the Olympic Games and are likewise held every four years in the year after a Summer Olympics.
