Sarita Tillett, 78, Tourism pioneer, dies

By Aaron Humes: 78-year-old Sarita Tillett, co-founder of S&L Travel and Tours with husband Lascelle, has died.

She is respected as an “original”, as according to President of the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) Stewart Krohn theirs is the first tour company of its kind. They combined shrewd business practice with a love for showing off Belize.

The couple set the way for tour companies and are the reason Belize’s tour operator sector is recognized as among the best in the region, said Krohn.

She was also recognized as a women’s pioneer by fellow operator and speaker of the House of Representatives Valerie Woods and by former Tourism CEO and Government Minister Tracey Taegar-Panton, who both said they regarded her as an inspiration in their own journeys.
