By BBN Staff: Kareem Barona, 19, appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court #3 yesterday to answer for a bench warrant for his arrest on an aggravated assault charge, however, the warrant was canceled and he was free to go. Immediately following this proceeding, however, Barona was back in court on another matter related to State of Emergency violations.
On April 21, Barona was arrested on New Road for moving around after the curfew. In court #4 yesterday, Barona changed his initial not guilty plea to guilty and was fined $300 plus $5 cost of court. He was given until December 31, 2021, to make the payment or spend 3 months in jail in default of payment.
Barona had missed his previous court dates, leading to the bench warrant for his arrest.
