US National Hurricane Center tracking two tropical waves in the Atlantic

Posted: Monday, October 11, 2021. 9:40 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking two weather systems in the Atlantic.

The NHC said in its 6 a.m. advisory that a tropical wave “about 350 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands is producing an area of showers and a few Thunderstorms”.

The NHC said the tropical wave may develop slowly over the next day or two as it moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph toward the Lesser Antilles. The system could cause heavy rainfall and gusty winds over the central and northern Lesser Antilles on Tuesday, and over the Virgin Islands and the Leeward Islands on Wednesday.

The system has a 20 percent chance of developing during the next two days to five days.

The NHC is also monitoring another tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean Sea. Rains and thunderstorms have decreased since Sunday. While the system is not expected to develop on Monday nor Tuesday, some development may happen by Wednesday as it approaches the southeastern Bahamas.

The system is expected to produce rain over parts of the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola during the next two days.

Its probability of developing during the next five days is 20 percent.
