By Aaron Humes: The countdown continues toward November’s Belize Investment Summit in Ambergris Caye.
Prime Minister John Briceño says the groundwork has been laid for proposals not only from international investors but also Belizeans.
“We have been active in the region – we’ve been going to SICA meetings, both myself as head of state and Eamon Courtenay as Minister of Foreign Affairs,” the P.M. explained, citing proposals from Mexico, Guatemala and Central America.
The recent meetings in Mexico have been especially fruitful, yielding for instance a proposal to join the Tren Maya, linking southeast Mexico to northern Belize either through the Northern Border or more likely through Ambergris Caye at Mahahual, reducing the time it takes to reach San Pedro Town from Cancun at the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula via a connected bridge.
That last proposal, the P.M. said, has generated some excitement in Mexico, and that has translated to Belize and so he can’t wait to see what may be on the table in November.
The Summit will be held at the Grand Caribe Hotel from November 10 to 11.
