By Aaron Humes: There was a fire earlier today that killed as many as 46 and injured dozens more in the southern town of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The United Democratic Party in a release took note of the tragedy, saying it “conveys deepest sympathy with the Government and People of Taiwan.”
Writing to Taiwanese Ambassador in Belize, David Kuan-Chou Chien, Leader of the Opposition Patrick Faber states, “I was saddened to hear the news of the major fire in the city of Kaohsiung that has claimed the lives of at least 46 persons and left about an equal amount injured. The fact that many of the residents that perished in the fire were elderly citizens concerns me greatly and obliges me to place on record our greatest sympathy for this tragedy that occurred in your country. My hope is that the families of those affected will find comfort at this very difficult time.”
The UDP further calls on the entire nation of Belize and the world community to show sympathy and solidarity with the people of Taiwan, a nation well known for its tremendous benevolence and humanitarian initiatives throughout the world and especially in Belize.
BBN sends its own wishes for relief and healing to those involved and our Taiwanese friends here and on the island.
