By Aaron Humes: Mayor of Dangriga Town Robert Mariano wants to know where the Culture Capital has gone wrong with regard to COVID-19 recently.
The municipality has seen a spike in cases, with about 110 active cases reported at the start of the week and more added each day.
Mariano says he believes people are taking the virus seriously and have been out for their vaccinations at the Town Hall, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and Southern Regional Hospital.
The ex-senior police officer made sure to remind fellow Dangrigans to wash their hands, avoid large gatherings, limit contact and do all they can to protect themselves.
And as the Culture Capital prepares for its biggest time of year in November, Mayor Mariano says he will be meeting with the National Garifuna Council (NGC) next week on plans for Garifuna Settlement Day and preparations within COVID protocols.
A mostly virtual calendar has already been released but Dangriga traditionally hosts activities and there will be word as to the procedure as the day comes closer, Mariano said.
