Police to upgrade charges

By BBN Staff: A man who was shot over the weekend may face charges for violating curfew when he recovers.

Belize City resident Michael Young told police that he had just arrived home at 11:59 p.m. when he was ambushed by two men and shot.

Communications Director for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Fitzroy Yearwood said that Young’s reason for being out at that hour will form a part of the ongoing investigation into the matter.

“Investigators are trying to establish his reason for being out after curfew hours. It was almost three hours into curfew indeed. Hopefully, when Mr. young can communicate with investigators properly we would be able to answer that question,” Yearwood said.

He noted that Young listed his occupation as a maintenance worker, which is an occupation that has some permission to move during curfew hours depending on the circumstances; however, his reason for being out would have to be valid.

Young is receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is listed as being in stable condition. The two men who shot Young managed to escape in the vicinity of Vernon Street. Police are still trying to establish a motive as a part of an ongoing investigation.
