By Aaron Humes: As the tourism industry slowly recovers from the stranglehold of COVID-19, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is working to reduce the number of unlicensed tour guides countrywide.
In a statement, the Board refers to the Tour Guide Regulations, Section 6, Chapter 275, which legislates it as the sole authority to license tour guides. No person, the regulations provide, shall operate/advertise or hold himself out as a tour guide without first obtaining a license in accordance with these Regulations.
Any person who contravenes the regulation above/ or any person/ company/entity or other group of persons who employs a person who is not licensed as a tour guide in accordance with these Regulations commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction:
(a) in the case of a natural person/company/entity or other group of persons to a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to both such fine and term of imprisonment.
The Board calls on those operating without a license, as well as those knowing of such, to contact our Licensing Unit at 227-2420 or at [email protected], at their earliest convenience.
