By BBN Staff: A group of five appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week after a police raid in the Lake Independence community yielded an unlicensed firearm, bullets, and drugs.
Cassius Myers, 20, Glenford Hyde, 22, Emerson Elijo,19, Lyrel Smith, 18, and a 17-year-old female minor, were all charged jointly with one count each of kept firearm and ammunition without a license for an alleged silver Girsen brand 9mm pistol with 10 live rounds of .9mm ammunition along with 715 grams of cannabis.
They all pleaded not guilty, but due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied and they were all remanded into custody. The 17-year-old female was remanded to the Belize Youth Hostel while the four males 18 and older were remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
The bust was made on Friday, October 15, 2021, at a Set Cite Area, Saint Martin De Pores area home. Police say that on Friday. October at 15, they made a search at the residence around 5:15 p.m. and found a green metal ammunition box containing the items.
