Guatemalan woman duped with faked permanent residency card

Posted: Tuesday, October 19, 2021. 2:10 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating an apparent case of immigration-related obtaining property by deception.

30-year-old Aura Azucena Caal Raymundo, Guatemalan Domestic of Young Bank Area, Camalote Village, Cayo District, was applying for permanent residence at the Immigration Department in Belmopan on September 13 where she met security guard Kean Cardinez, 23.

He claimed to be able to speed up her process and charged $2,500, $1,000 of which she paid upfront and the remainder approximately a month later.

Cardinez appeared to have come through on October 14 with what looked like a permanent residence identification card, but it turned out the document was not genuine.

Police have detained Cardinez as their investigations continue.
