PAHO/WHO Belize donates communications equipment to the Ministry of Health and Wellness boost to COVID-19 campaign

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) has donated communications to the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) to boost their COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign.

“During a global pandemic like COVID-19, community preventive measures are crucial to fighting and controlling this disease. Thus, proper risk communication plans and actions are key to introducing and ensuring public health interventions and raising awareness of the seriousness of the pandemic,” said PAHO/WHO.

The region and world health bodies said the unprecedented nature of the COVID-19 pandemic risk communications is every day more necessary to inform the populace on proper health measures. The appropriate risk communication equipment is essential in ensuring the country’s population is provided “with relevant and empowering information” that makes them realize that COVID-19 vaccines are “a vital defense in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic”.

PAHO/WHO said that maintaining good management of communications is key in making vaccination campaigns successful. It also helps in getting the population to accept and receive the vaccine and recommend it to others.

“Furthermore, successfully managed communication mitigates the impact of potential adverse events and demonstrates responsibility and transparency,” added PAHO/WHO.

The intention of the donated equipment is to improve the MOHW’s capacity in developing and disseminating health campaigns “needed to encourage positive behavior changes and informed decision-making”.

The equipment includes:

6 Projectors with Extendable Ceiling/Wall Mount

1 DSLR Video Camera

1 Wireless Mic for interviews

1 Teleprompter

1 Laminator Machine

1 Video Tripod

1 Camera Stabilizer

5 128GB SD Cards
