By Rubén Morales Iglesias: A new report issued by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency says that the new Delta Plus variant, being labeled as AY.4.2, is on the rise in the UK.
The Delta Plus was first identified in July according to the BBC and totaled 6% of the COVID-19 samples tested in the week that began on September 27.
Scientists are studying the offshoot of the Delta Variant which has already been found in the United States, Denmark, and Israel according to Yahoo News.
The BBC said the AY.4.2 “contains mutations that might give the virus survival advantages” but “tests are underway to understand how much of a threat it may pose”.
The Delta Plus mutation is not yet considered a variant of concern.
