BBN Staff: Orange Walk police on Wednesday intended to lay charges on fellow officer Constable Wayne Dawson at his hospital bed at the Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town. However, they did not do so.
A reliable source told us family members watching over the cop called an attorney and an official in Belmopan and managed to get the officers to hold off reading charges of leaving the scene of an accident.
Constable Dawson was shot to his left upper back last week and needs a CAT scan to determine the presence of a blood clot.
Dawson is accused of fleeing the scene of not one but two accidents: one in Corozal Town and the other on the Mameyal Curve between San Jose village and Orange Walk Town.
He then allegedly fired at fellow officers when he was finally stopped in front of a supermarket on Otro Benque Road.
Constable Dawson, however, has publicly refuted the Department’s version of events, saying that he was hit from behind by an accelerating vehicle and then decided to leave because he disagreed with how the matter was being handled by the investigating officer.
To our knowledge, no charges to date have actually been leveled against the officer.
