Posted: Friday, October 22, 2021. 10:17 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, Jose Abelardo Mai; CEO Servulo Baeza; Director of Research, Ina Sanchez; and Coordinator of Non-Traditional Crops, Fay Garnett, are at present on a visit to Merida, Yucatan.

While in Merida, Minister Mai will sign several technical agreements with the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) and the National Institute of Forestry, Crop and Livestock Research (INIFAP), Mexican equivalents of Belize’s Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) and Central Farm Research Center.

At the same time, Minister Mai and entourage are visiting several research facilities and farms in the vicinity of Merida. Yesterday they visited the Parque Cientifico Tecnologico de Yucatan and toured its Bio Factory and Nursery Unit, while today they visited soy, pitahaya and soursop farms. They are also visiting INIFAP’s Field Trial Station at Mococha, where they will look at coconuts.

The visit is the beginning of technical and knowledge sharing agreements, exchanges and training both governments will engage on in the near future.
