Taiwan hit by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake

By Benjamin Flowers: Taiwan was struck by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake last night, Reuters reports.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was reported at 10:11 p.m. Pacific time. The epicenter was in Yilan county, however, reports are that the quake could be felt across the northern, eastern, and western parts of Taiwan.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was further than 100 miles from the city of Hualien. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 40.1 miles.

Thus far, there have been no reports of damage or injury.

International media report that there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater to hit Taiwan in the past 10 days.
