By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As Canada lifted its travel advisory against non-essential travel for the first time since March 2020 due to COVID-19, it advises Canadians to exercise caution in Belize.
But the advice on Belize is not because of COVID-19. The individual country’s advice on Belize tells Canadians to “exercise a high degree of caution in Belize, due to a high rate of violent crime throughout the country”.
As to the COVID-19 travel advice, the government of Canada’s website COVID-19 Travel Advice now says: “You should be fully vaccinated by completing a COVID-19 vaccine series in Canada or abroad at least 14 days before traveling”.
“Be aware that although you are better protected against serious illness if you are vaccinated, you may still be at risk of infection from the virus that causes COVID-19.”
“If you’re unvaccinated, you remain at increased risk of being infected with and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 when traveling internationally. You should continue avoiding non-essential travel to all destinations.”
The new notice alerts travelers to inform themselves of the COVID-19 situation in the countries that they are traveling to, to adhere to COVID-19 protocols (wearing masks, washing hands, and social distancing), and also advises to follow local health measures.
The government of Canada advises against cruise ship travel outside Canada.
