By Aaron Humes: The Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has taken umbrage at comments made in a Channel 7 News interview aired tonight in which, they allege, he referred to Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero, as being “not that important”.
The office has been subject to heavy scrutiny ahead of proposed changes to the Ministry of Health and Wellness which will be tabled in the House of Representatives tomorrow, Tuesday.
The Prime Minister has been even blunter in the past, maintaining that Dr. Manzanero “had no plan” to take on COVID-19, and making no secret of his desire to remove him.
Indeed, there are talks ongoing for what the P.M. said would be a “decent exit” for Dr. Manzanero, the early face of Belize’s pandemic response.
Nonetheless, the UDP insists the statement is unbecoming and unnecessary and certain to draw ire from the public if it has not done so already.
“We expect our PM to lead by example. It is painfully obvious that the PM lacks the wherewithal to communicate spontaneously and effectively, but this is no excuse for such a blatant display of arrogance and insensitivity,” the UDP scolded.
