How much was Manuel Vasquez paid to leave Governorship of Central Bank?

By Aaron Humes: Former Governor of the Central Bank of Belize Manuel Vasquez did not get all he wanted to leave the post a few months ago.

Answering a question from Albert area representative Tracey Taegar Panton, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance John Briceno noted first of all that as an autonomous body the Bank has full control over hiring and termination.

Vasquez, who served roughly five months of a five-year contract, received approximately 65 percent of what he demanded to settle his departure in cash.

Vasquez did not receive any vehicles, furniture, or other equipment, the P.M. said, a reference to the still ongoing Commission of Inquiry on such giveaways in the last months of the Barrow administration.

Taegar-Panton also questioned whether Vasquez qualified for the 10 percent paycut given to teachers and public officers.

The P.M. said in reply that he and other Central Bank staff did not as members of a statutory body and not the rank and file public officers in the Ministry of Finance.
