By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government met with the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Yannick Glemarec on Tuesday as they continue preparing for the United Nations COP 26, said a CARICOM press release.
COP26 is the 26th Conference of Parties organized under The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)OP 26 will be held in Glasgow, United Kingdom from October 31 to November 12, 2021.
The Heads of Government asked Glemarec to simplify the process to access funds under the GCF and to increase the percentage allocated to adaptation to climate change by the Fund. Additionally, the CARICOM leaders urged Glemarec to establish a GCF office in the Caribbean Region to enhance interaction between the Fund and the Community.
The CARICOM leaders have had several meetings to put together the Community’s presentation for COP 26.
Heads of Government had a Special Session to discuss plans for COP 26 while the Ministers of the Environment met in a Special Session to finalize positions for the negotiations at COP 26. The Ministers also met virtually with the United States Special Envoy on Climate Change Secretary John Kerry to exchange views on the possible outcomes of COP 26 said the CARICOM Press release.
