Court grants bail to former escapee accused of attempted murder

BBN Staff: Deon White, 23, of Croton Lane, Belize City, has been granted bail in the Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder and others.

He was charged jointly with 25-year-old Evian Murrillo for the murder of Ezekiel Usher on February 23, 2020; attempted murder of Joyce Edwards and use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm on Edwards; and aggravated assault of Gregory Williams.

Prosecutors subsequently dropped the murder charge in September of this year and the court granted bail to Murrillo on the other charges.

White remained incarcerated on a separate charge of escape from the Belize Central Prison for which he was serving one year – being one of the 27 prisoners who broke out last October only to be recaptured in a few days. This sentence has now been completed.

White and Murrillo face a preliminary inquiry on the remaining charges on November 17.
