Parliamentarian Tracy Panton threatened with lawsuit by Stake Bank developers for defamation

Posted: Wednesday, October 27, 2021. 5:19 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Albert area representative and former Minister of State, Tracey Taegar-Panton, has been requested to apologize within seven days of today, Wednesday, for alleged defamatory statements made in a television interview against the Stake Bank cruise port development and its developers, the Feinstein Group.

The letter from Glenn D. Godfrey law firm alleges that in an October 7 interview with Channel 7 News Panton seriously defamed Michael Feinstein and his partners in Stake Bank by her claim that they illegitimately, fraudulently and nefariously entered into an Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) with the Department of the Environment to build causeways between Stake Bank, North Drowned Caye and Belize City – plans which Taegar-Panton said her administration did not support.

Stake Bank/Feinstein insist that their August 2019 ECP was legitimately entered into.

They demand confirmation of an apology to be widely distributed within seven days from today, failing which they would proceed with a case for defamation.

We will continue to follow the story.
