Repeat offender fined for COVID regulation violations

Posted: Wednesday, October 27, 2021. 5:23 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Kareem Flowers blames his failure to appear in court on alleged violations of COVID regulations on the rain, literally.

Appearing before Magistrate Audrey Grinage on a bench warrant, Flowers claimed the inside of his house got wet during recent rains and it destroyed all his papers, including his court slip with the list of dates on which he was to return to court for multiple offenses.

Flowers pleaded guilty to charges of failure to wear a face mask and failure to practice social distancing for an offense recorded on August 6, 2020, on King Street, Belize City.

For each offense, he was fined 500 dollars to be paid by January 28, 2022, in default two months’ imprisonment on each charge.

A separate charge of handling stolen goods will be tried when Flowers next appears in court on November 5.
