Rossana Briceño elected new chairperson of Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Rossana Briceño, the Prime Minister’s wife and Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, was elected the new chairperson of Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) at its quarterly meeting on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

Briceño replaces outgoing chair, Patricia Minnis, Spouse of the former Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and outgoing Chair, according to a SCLAN press release.

The quarterly meeting reviewed SCLAN’s work in the region and discussed the five-year 2021 Strategic Plan. The objective of the recently completed plan is to ensure the health and wellbeing of women and children in the Caribbean.

SCLAN was formally established at a meeting held in Belize City on September 5, 2017.

The SCLAN statement said its objective is to provide “a framework where First Ladies can coordinate their efforts and use their platforms to advocate for and implement activities geared toward addressing areas of critical importance across the sub-region, namely, HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, adolescent pregnancy, cervical cancer, and mental health”.

SCLAN expressed appreciation to Minnis for her time as Chairperson acknowledging “her commitment and work to ensure the health and wellbeing of women and children in the region”.

SCLAN also congratulated Briceño, Vice-Chair Mellisa Santokhi Seenacherry, First Lady of the Republic of Suriname, and the Executive Board.
The other Board Members are Kristin Burt, Spouse of the Premier of Bermuda; Eloise Gonsalves, Spouse of the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Sharon Rowley, Spouse of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago; Kim Simplis Barrow, Spouse of the Former Prime Minister of Belize, and Sandra Granger, Former First Lady of Guyana.
