Prime Minister announces plans for Constituency Development Fund separate than Constituency Vote

By Aaron Humes: The Government has presented its plans for a Constituency Development Fund, populated according to the number of electors per division, and being a separate fund than the constituency vote.

Prime Minister John Briceño took the opportunity to compare the PUP plan to the previous administration as being more “colorblind”.

Divisions with less than 3 thousand electors get 10 thousand dollars per month; those between 3 and 7 thousand get 15 thousand dollars and those above 7 thousand, 20 thousand dollars.

This money is to be put into projects for each division above and beyond the “constituency vote” each representative gets directly.

While commending the establishment of the new Constituency Development Fund, Albert area representative Tracey Taegar-Panton chided the P.M.’s seeming “arrogance,” reminding him that these are the people’s monies which they have entrusted to the Government to be redistributed.

Funds will be allocated to all constituencies whether represented by the PUP or the UDP.
