Two charged with gang affiliation remanded to prison

By BBN Staff: A man and a woman charged with being members of separate criminal gangs were both remanded to the Belize Central Prison this week.

The woman, 25-year-old Eve Beeks, was charged with being a member of the Taylor’s Alley Bloods gang for the purpose of committing serious offenses. In court, she pleaded not guilty to the charge but was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 28, 2021.

The next to be arraigned was 20-year-old Damion Saldano. Saldano, who has been in the news for criminal activity before, was arrested and charged with being a member of the George Street Gang. Saldano requested to plead guilty hoping to receive a fine.

The Magistrate explained to him that pleading guilty meant that he had to accept that he was a member of a criminal gang for the purpose of committing serious offenses; however, Saldano explained that he only wanted to plead guilty to avoid going back to jail since he just got out of jail in September.

The court entered an equivocal plea of not guilty and he was remanded to prison until December 28, 2021.
