By Aaron Humes: Today on social media he went after those he said did their best to make him a liability to the United Democratic Party (UDP), using the Lev Dermen scandal as cover.

According to Saldivar, what he did with Dermen is hardly scandalous: “…soliciting and receiving contributions from people with money is par for the course for ALL politicians. Even the politicians with money prefer to use someone else’s money to help the people of their constituencies. And those of us who do not have our own money have to beg money-people to help us to help our constituencies. That’s the plain, unadulterated truth. How else would we be able to do all that we do for our people, the medical bills, school bills, grocery bills, light bills, sports, trophies, football, softball, basketball, cricket. And thankfully now most of my colleagues have come to realize that this is all that happened with Lev Dermen.”

And while Saldivar admits that “I did not respond promptly and properly from the outset and I can blame no one else for that part but myself” as it relates to alleged conspiracies, he does point that events since have borne him out and many of his colleagues have come accept his version of events – “the real truth” as he deems it – and understood his choices and agreed that he remains a leader, and that, he says, is responsible for the “fragile unity” behind the UDP at present.

In case you were wondering, it appears leader Patrick Faber is not among the conspiracists and Saldivar reaffirms that “My support for Patrick’s leadership is unequivocal and is for more than “at this time”. And so while he is aware of mentor Dean Lindo’s rule that UDPs should never speak ill of each other, he also subscribes to the maxim of Kenny Rogers in “Coward of the County:” “…sometimes you have to fight when you’re a man.”

And Saldivar, still in the running to be party caretaker and standard bearer in his division, says he will be fighting those who continue to be unhappy with the Faber truce and especially those moving to eliminate him from contention. His chilling final warning: “…there is no way taking Dermen’s money (not taxpayer’s) can make me such baggage for my Party over all the other stuff that I know of others, including here in Belmopan.”
