By BBN Staff: Her Excellency Rosanna Briceno, wife of Prime Minister John Briceno and Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children has been elected the Chairperson for the Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN).
Briceno announced that she was elected to the post on Friday, noting that she is proud to serve in that capacity. Briceno, a career educator and known advocate for children with diverse abilities, assumed the role of Special Envoy, succeeding Kim Simplis Barrow (Who also sits on the board for SCLAN). Since assuming the role of Special Envoy, Briceno expanded the portfolio from “Women and Children” to “Families and Children.”
SCLAN was established on 5 September 2017 at a meeting of “First Ladies” of CARICOM.
The organization serves to provide a framework where First Ladies could coordinate their efforts and use their platforms to advocate for and implement activities geared toward addressing areas of critical importance across the sub-region. These issues include HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, adolescent pregnancy, cervical cancer, and mental health.
