Commissioner: “I am a strong advocate for the enforcement of the COVID-19 regulations”

Posted: Tuesday, November 2, 2021. 6:28 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The revelation of a “curfew party” hosted by no less than several police officers in Belize City over the weekend has left Commissioner of Police Chester Williams “irate”.

Not only does it blacken the name of the Department once again, it is hypocritical to demand enforcement of the law and then condone such actions as these.

The lot will be ticketed for $500 each at maximum but so far the Commissioner said he has not contemplated internal disciplinary charges.

He also noted that if stress is the issue, as he acknowledged the Department as a whole is facing in its unique role, there are other and better ways to relieve it.

But the Commissioner vowed to go on as a “strong advocate for the enforcement of the COVID-19 regulations.”

And as he told Officer Commanding Eastern Division Dr Richard Rosado, this will not go away as the officers may have hoped, and they will be treated the same as civilians caught breaking the law.

The Department has worked with counselor Anne Cuvas to provide counseling services to affected officers in recent weeks.
