St. Johns College Junior College to offer Bachelor’s Degree programs

Posted: Wednesday, November 3, 2021. 5:16 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: St. John’s College Junior College (SJCJC) has announced the establishment of Bachelor and Graduate programs, continuing its run as one of the nation’s top schools since its establishment in 1887.

SJCJC was one of the first junior colleges in Belize but has primarily offered Associate Degrees and certificates since its inception.

President Mirtha Peralta acknowledged that the cost of education has risen to make it unaffordable for many, stunting Belize’s growth and limiting opportunities for our youngest.

The vertical expansion has been approved by the Ministry of Education to begin in January of 2022.

Education Minister Francis Fonseca said SJC’s 134-year history of producing “men and women for others” in the Catholic and Jesuit tradition satisfied the Ministry that it could join the ranks of the University of Belize and Galen University as providers of undergraduate education beyond the Associate or Sixth Form level.

The school updated its logo to reflect the additions and dedicated a new building in honor of late priest and educator Father John Stochl.
