Belize has exported cattle valued at $40 million over the last year

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Two hundred seventy-three (273) head of cattle were exported to Mexico on Thursday and Friday from Blue Creek according to Belarmino Esquivel, Principal Agriculture Office and Livestock Director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).

Two truckloads of cattle left for the importer Su Karne in Michoacan, Mexico on Thursday, and one more was exported today.

“To date, official cattle exports to Mexico account for a total of 1,918 bovines resulting in an estimated economic contribution of BZ$1,711,815.00,” said Esquivel.

Though not much is heard of the exports to Guatemala, they far exceed the exports to Mexico.

“As of October 31, 2021, total exports to Guatemala accounted to 40,243 bovines generating an estimated economic contribution of approximately 40 million Belize dollars,” said Esquivel.

These statistics are from September 2020 for the exports to Mexico and from November 2020 for the exports to Guatemala.
