Police dismissed 40 officers including several prominent members

By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams announced during this afternoon’s press briefing that internal disciplinary hearings have led to the dismissal of multiple officers, including several accused of prominent criminal activity.

Among them are the officer accused of the manslaughter of Laddie Gillett, who was dismissed, and Woman Police Constable Michelle Brown, acquitted in court of the murder of Fareed Ahmad earlier this year and dismissed on internal charges.

It is an example pointed to by the Commissioner of the zeal with which his office has been holding officers who have strayed accountable.

But no such fate awaits Assistant Commissioner of Police Marco Vidal. When asked if the lead Operations Commander would be placed on administrative leave because officers in his team or under his command are allegedly involved in the drug landing. The Commissioner said Vidal personally vouched for the fact that the men found in the area were not there on his orders, and therefore with nothing publicly linking him to Thursday night’s events, it would be precipitous to suspend him.
