Man shot in Belizean territory receives medical treatment in Guatemala

By BBN Staff: A man from Jalacte is recovering at a health facility in Guatemala after being shot yesterday.

Police say that Jairo Israel Agustin was on a horse some 200 meters from Guatemalan territory when someone emerged through some thick bushes and fired a single shot, hitting him in the stomach.

He rode his horse over to Santa Cruz village in Guatemala where he was rushed to the Poptun medical facility to get urgent medical treatment.

Police say that they have confirmed he is in stable condition following surgery.

Officers canvassed the area where he was shot but did not find any expended shells.

Thus far there are no named suspects, as police continue to gather information.
