By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U20 Belize Men’s Football Team (BMNT) started off its participation in the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifiers with a 0-0 with St Lucia at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Sunday.
Belize is competing in Group B against St Lucia, the Dominican Republic, Saint Martin, and Anguilla.
In other group games, St Lucia routed St Martin 5-2 while the Dominican Republic pounded Anguilla 6-0 on Friday. On Sunday, the Dominican Republic blanked St Martin 2-0.
So, far the Dominican Republic leads with six points followed by St Lucia with 4. St Martin and Anguilla don’t have any points.
Grenada and Curacao lead Group A with six points each.
St Vincent and the Grenadines and Bermuda are ahead in Group C with three points each, while in Group D, Guyana is tops with four points followed by Nicaragua with three.
At the end of this competition, only the group winners advance to the Concacaf U-20 Final Championship.
Belize’s next game will be on Tuesday against St Martin at 2:00 pm.
On Thursday, Belize will match up against the hosts Dominican Republic at 5:00 pm.
Then on Saturday, the BMNT will close against Anguilla at 2:00 pm. All of Belize’s games will be at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium.
