By BBN Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court spared 56-year-old Peter Searle jail time this week, after he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault and damage to property.
Searle was in court on Monday, charged with assaulting Taryn Baizar and causing damages, totaling $550, to his motorcycle. He explained that the situation stemmed from an ongoing land dispute that he and Baizar are battling out in court. Initially, he had pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty and apologized to the court for his dishonesty.
Searle was fine $2,000 plus $5.00 cost of court fine for aggravated assault and given until January 28, 2021, to pay. If Searle defaults with payment, he will be sent to jail for 9 months.
