Cabinet approves National Digital Agenda aiming for a ‘Digital Belize’

Posted: Thursday, November 11, 2021. 9:50 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belize is going digital, according to the Briceno government.

This week, Cabinet approved the National Digital Agenda for the period 2022 to 2025 called “Towards a Digital Belize.”

In a statement, the Executive says, “This agenda seeks to build trust in government services by simplifying procedures, improving service delivery, and facilitating economic recovery through digitalization”.

Managed through the Ministry of Youth, Sports & E-Governance, the National Digital Agenda will result in a more open, efficient, and effective government, thereby representing the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at all levels of society, it continues.

In 2020, Belize passed the Cyber Crime Act concerning behaviour online and in digital systems. This year, there was additional legislation passed to cover business and other online transactions to protect consumers and regulate online practices.
