By BBN Staff: A Belize City father plead guilty to a charge of drug trafficking this week, allowing his daughter to walk free of the charge.

Richard Whylie, 41, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court along with his 18-year-old daughter, Shanaya White, answering to a charge of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply in respect to 1,345 grams (just under 3 pounds) of marijuana.

Whylie’s guilty plea landed him with the mandatory minimum fine for the offense, $10,000 plus a $5.00 cost of court fine, of which he was ordered to pay by April 30, 2022, in default three years imprisonment.

In mitigation, Whylie told the court that he was wrong and that from the police found the weed at his home he told the police officers that he was taking responsibility for it.
