Regulation coming to construction industry in Belize

By Aaron Humes: The Belize Building Act is to be amended for greater oversight by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing, to adequately monitor and regulate construction and construction activities within Belize.

The Ministry has charge of the Central Building Authority and Municipal Building Units and will be working with the Attorney General’s Ministry to make amendments to the Belize Building Act as well as to amend Statutory Instrument No. 96 to adjust the schedule of fees and guidelines that govern payment to the regulatory authorities.

The Ministry has started a program of starter homes of which prototypes are being built in several communities. The CBA typically issues permits for construction in conjunction with public utility agencies and other stakeholders.
