Public officers must be vaccinated by mid-December, Ministry memo says

Posted: Monday, November 15, 2021. 8:57 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The clock is ticking.

With effect from today, per a memorandum from Chief Executive Officer Rolando Zetina, there must be no more excuses by public officers to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

Zetina states that “for the safety of all public officers and the public they serve, it has been decided that all essential workers and other public officers must be vaccinated by December 15, 2021.”

Thereafter, serving public officers must show proof they have been vaccinated with at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. Negative rapid tests or PCR tests will no longer be accepted.

Failure to comply by the above date, Zetina writes, means the offending worker will not be allowed into their office, will be marked absent, and will face disciplinary proceedings according to the relevant law.

Nearly half of all Belizeans are now partially vaccinated including a majority of teachers, while around 43 percent at last count are fully vaccinated.
