Cabinet news: electronic publication for revised laws of Belize; holiday ‘come-up’ for Immigration officers

Posted: Thursday, November 18, 2021. 1:16 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: In other news from the Executive, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration has been permitted to hire and employ six additional immigration clerks to work at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, Ladyville.

Current Immigration officers are getting an increase in overtime payment from 50 to 75 hours, paid presumably at what is known as “time and a half” – 1 ½ times the base pay under the Labour Act.

This is to support the increase of flights into Belize and the start of the 2021 tourism season where record high arrivals are anticipated at the PGIA.

Finally, Cabinet gave its approval for the Attorney General’s Ministry to present amendments to the Law Revision Act, Chapter 3 of the Substantive Laws of Belize primarily to allow for the publication of the revised edition of the laws of Belize to be done electronically. The final draft of the bill is to be tabled at the next sitting of the House of Representatives, which is expected in December.
