Minister of Education Francis Fonseca to present at Inaugural Ministerial summit by CXC

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology Francis Fonseca will be among presenters as the Caribbean Examinations Council hosts its Inaugural Ministerial Summit on Educational Assessment, virtually, on Tuesday morning, November 23.

Fonseca will co-present with His Excellency Dr. Lovell Francis, Trinidad and Tobago High Commissioner to South Africa, on the question of What are the implications of making History compulsory in secondary schools?

Belize has established a Belizean Studies curriculum at the high school level in addition to the CXC-endorsed Social Studies and Caribbean History curricula usually taught in Third and Fourth Form to select students.

The event is themed Facilitating Transformation Through Assessment and will engage education policymakers, from across the region, in high-level dialogue. The agenda includes keynote addresses and Roundtable discussions where participants will explore the curriculum policy in various territories, with particular emphasis on new topical areas for learning, approaches in teaching, and strategies for assessment.

Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, will deliver the keynote address on the importance of history to regional integration and development. Also addressing the gathering is a representative of Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett on CXC’s role in the broader development framework for the region; Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Chairman of CXC and Dr. Wayne Wesley, Council Registrar, and CEO.

Education representatives from across the region and will share their perspectives and national experiences during the three Roundtable discussions scheduled for the Ministerial Summit

Proceedings begin on Tuesday 23 November 2021 from 9:00 AM AST (7:00 a.m. Belize time), live-streamed via CXC TV, www.cxc.org/cxctv, and UWI TV www.uwitv.org.
